When we look at what the Knicks and Bulls have done this season, they have had some very high-highs and some super low lows. The Knicks lost to the Clippers on Sunday, while the Bulls made some very unfortunate NBA history on Saturday night.
New York had held the Cavs to just 81 points on Friday night and were obviously feeling very good about themselves. They immediately turned around and allowed the talented LA Clippers, who were down two starters, to drop 129 points on them in their home arena. Obviously, the season has been different without fans. But by now, everybody should be adjusted to these differences. The defense could not keep the Clippers from making shot after shot, throughout the afternoon.
The Bulls had a five-point lead against Portland with inside of 12 seconds left in the contest on Saturday. In these circumstances, the team with the lead has lost just eight times out of 25,000 in the past 25 seasons. Portland wound up winning on a Damian Lillard three as time expired, because of course. How the Bulls bounce back will be determined in the very first minutes of Monday night’s game.
ODDS:
The spread for the battle at United Center is Chicago -3.5. The over/under is set at 218.5 points.
Knicks Seek Quick Bounce Back
Looking at the Knicks record, 9-11 really is not a bad way to open up the season. They have picked up some impressive wins, and the talent is much better than any of us could have expected coming into the year. Immanuel Quickley is already proving to be a first-round steal, while Julius Randle is suddenly playing like an All-Star. And 2019 #3 pick RJ Barrett is improving steadily.
The issues with the Knicks are with getting stops when they need them. They have some good veteran players here, but other teams seem to be able to take advantage in most fourth-quarter situations. It would also be great to see Obi Toppin get more opportunities, as he is only seeing around 13-18 minutes behind Julius Randle in most games.
Look for another big night from Julius and Barrett here.
Bulls Seeking Quick Recovery
When you lose on a buzzer-beater, there cannot be any good thoughts in your mind. It is all about how you blew it and why the other team was able to beat you. Even with a new coach in Billy Donovan, it seems the Bulls still have a lot of problems to fix here.
Lauri Markkanen has played very well since returning to the lineup, and Zach LaVine has played at an All-Star level once again. However, the inconsistent play of Coby White has hurt them. What is most shocking about the Bulls is the incredible playmaking of Thaddeus Young with the second unit. He looks like a whole new player now.
Chicago has the talent to beat any team. But the question is always if they can hold it together for 48 minutes. They are 7-11 so far.
