The New York Yankees will take on the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night for what has the chance to be one of the more interesting MLB games of the day. Despite both teams underperforming this season in terms of where they are in the standings, these are still two of the better teams in baseball and most fans realize that. The Yankees have been derailed by injuries, while the Cardinals haven’t been able to get much going on either side of the baseball.
Continue reading below for our Yankees vs Cardinals betting preview.
St. Louis Doesn’t Have Much Longer
The season the St. Louis Cardinals have had has arguably been the worst in the past decade for this franchise. They expected to be a team that had a chance to win the World Series this season and at the moment, they’re currently 9.5 games behind the first-place Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers.
They come in at just 6-4 in their last 10 and are 15-24 on their home field, where they will play this series. There have been a few issues for St. Louis this season, but their inability to get much going on the mound and some managerial problems seem to be the reason why they can’t figure this thing out.
23-year-old Matthew Liberatore is going to be on the mound for St. Louis and that could be good news for them if he comes out and has his elite stuff. On the season, he’s currently 1-2 with a 5.6 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched. He’s still one of the top prospects in baseball and has the potential to be one of the best left-handed pitchers in the MLB in the coming years.
Yankees Could Be Figuring It Out
The New York Yankees just got back from a road trip against the Oakland Athletics and showed them why they’re clearly the better team. They threw the first perfect game since Felix Hernandez did many years ago in game 2 and then showed up in game 3 and won 10-4.
Doing this without Aaron Judge is impressive for the Yankees, despite who they’re playing. The Yankees are one of the better teams in the league when they’re healthy and that’s all they need to continue doing until they can get to full health.
If they can find a way to continue winning games without Judge and some of their other top arms, they’re going to find themselves in a good position to win this game. With Luis Severino getting the start, the Yankees should feel someone confident in quieting the Cardinals’ bats. The Cardinals’ offense has still been above average, even with this tough stretch, but Luis Severino has been good for the Yankees this season since returning from injury.
New York Yankees at St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview Prediction
With the odds that we can get the Yankees in this game, it almost seems like a no-brainer backing them. They come in at -105 on the moneyline and have a real chance of winning this game. Because of that, the Yankees are going to be the play the day.
