Stafford Set for Huge 2017
Matthew Stafford is poised for a monster 2017 season. The 29 year old throw for more than 4,300 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. The former Georgia quarterback has over 30,000 career passing yards. Golden Tate was his top target a season ago, with 91 receptions and 1,077 yards.
The Lions run game has got to be better this season than last. The Lions last season lost Ameer Abdullah early in the season, and did not recover. The Lions saw Theo Riddick finish the season with the most yards, but just 357 on the season. Zach Zenner led Detroit with 4 touchdown runs.
Arizona Using Johnson Early and Often
David Johnson was one of the best running backs in all of the National Football League last season. The 25 year old out of Northern Iowa rushed for 16 touchdowns in 2016. Johnson finished with just shy of 1,300 yards on the ground, and also was a great pass catching back.
Carson Palmer is still the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. Palmer will start the season at 37 years old. In his career, Palmer has thrown just shy of 45,000 yards. Last season Palmer chucked the football with 4,233 yards and 26 touchdowns. Arizona will open their home season in Week 3 against the Cowboys.
Lions Down Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals have a long distance to travel for the opening game of the season. That’s West Coast heading to the Eastern Time Zone. In the past, that has not been easy for teams in the National Football League. Look for Detroit to jump on Arizona early in this game, and not look back.
Many are projecting Arizona to be really good this season, but just not buying it here. The Seattle Seahawks are going to win their division. For Detroit, they will be in a dogfight with the Vikings for second. In this game, Detroit wins at home behind a nice outing from Stafford. Bet the Lions +2.
