The Los Angeles Rams will host the Houston Texans for a preseason matchup on Saturday afternoon. Both the Rams and Texans believe they can be a playoff contender in 2018, and this should be a competitive game. The two teams will likely play their starters for at least a half in this game, before playing their backups in week four.
The Houston Texans are 2-0 this preseason having defeated both the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. The Los Angeles Rams were blown out by the Baltimore Ravens in the preseason opener before bouncing back to beat the Oakland Raiders in week two. The Los Angeles Rams are +2.0 coming into this game.
Deshaun Watson Appears Healthy
Deshaun Watson was off to a great start in 2017 before an ACL injury derailed his rookie season. The quarterback has been sharp in the first two preseason games, and the Texans offense is expected to be explosive with him calling the shots. In week two, Watson went 5-8 for 73 yards including a touchdown in the Texans victory. He has played in just one series in each of the first two games, but should see some extended minutes in this game.
The Texans defense should receive a boost on Saturday as Jadeveon Clowney is expected to play. Clowney has been trying to come back from a January knee surgery, but it appears that he is ready for game action. The Texans will be without starting cornerback Kevin Johnson who was hospitalized with a concussion suffered in their previous game. The Texans defense will catch a Rams team without their two best offensive players.
Rams Without Goff, Gurley
The Los Angeles Rams should have one of the top offenses in the NFL this season, but that won’t be the case on Saturday. Rams head coach Sean McVay is expected to keep both Todd Gurley and Jared Goff out for the entire preseason. Goff was originally expected to play, but a depleted offensive line is keeping him out. The Rams offense should struggle against a tough defense in this one.
The Los Angeles Rams are still without defensive star Aaron Donald. Donald continues to hold out in hopes of a new contract, but the Rams still figure to have a top defense in 2018. The Rams brought in Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters and NDamukong Suh in the offseason to help provide veteran stability on the defensive side of the ball. These three players are expected to see limited action on Saturday afternoon.
Houston Texans Move to 3-0
The Los Angeles Rams have their sights set on the season opener, and aren’t concerned about getting their offensive stars reps. Playing without Jared Goff and Todd Gurley will hurt the Rams chances in this game. The Texans have a dominant defensive line that should wreak havoc in this game. Look for the Houston Texans to beat the Rams by more than a field goal in this game. Bet the Texans -2.0 to cover and earn the win.
