The Cubs on the other hand, continue to show how deep of a team they are. Daniel Murphy and David Bote have been dominant in the past few weeks, as they have grown their first-place lead.
A battle of the first-place teams, this series should be a lot of fun. The Braves have been playing very well of late, and have picked up a lot of ground on the Phillies. They are getting production across the board. The Braves are -135 over the Cubs on Thursday.

Chicago Cubs
Man oh man, this team just has so many weapons. Kris Bryant has, unfortunately, had an injury-prone season, but it really hasn’t hurt them much. Anthony Rizzo’s slugging numbers have been impressive, while Javy Baez has been so good that he launched himself into the MVP conversation.
David Bote has been making big plays for the Cubs ever since his WOGS against the Nats, while Daniel Murphy is batting .355 with 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s in seven games for Chicago. Cole Hamels has been arguably the best pitcher in baseball since coming over, as the team looks for a second WS title in three years.
Mike Montgomery will take the mound for his fourteenth start (33rd appearance) of the season. In 99 1/3 innings of work, he has posted a 4-4 record, with a 3.62 ERA. Montgomery has struck out 61 batters while walking 32. In his last start against the Royals, he allowed just five hits over six shutout innings.
Atlanta Braves
What a season it has been for Nick Markakis, the unofficial leader of the Braves. He’s been around this game for thirteen years, and this is the first time that voters found his numbers to be impressive enough to vote him in. Ronald Acuna Jr. looks like the NL ROTY, while Freddie Freeman has also been coming up big. Johan Camargo has quietly had an impressive season for the Braves, who have really extended their division lead on the Phillies. They’ve outscored opponents by an impressive 102 runs, en route to their 74-57 start.
They will send Mike Foltynewicz (that is the proper spelling) to the mound for his 26th start of the season. The 26-year-old has gone 10-8, posting a 2.67 ERA in 145 innings of work. He has struck out 169 batters while walking only 56. In his last outing against the Marlins on August 24, he allowed just one run on two hits, striking out eight batters in six innings of work.
Cubs earn another victory
A good day to be a Cubs fan, as they beat the Braves for another win. Mike Montgomery will outduel the Braves’ Mike, to give them the W.
David Bote will launch a deep ball, while Javy Baez will end his mini-RBI drought by driving in three to get him to 100 for the year. The Cubs bullpen has looked good and will finish the dal for Montgomery in this one.
