The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Louisville Cardinals are set to get together in a College Football affair on Saturday. The Irish come into the game ranked 10th in the most recent Associated Press poll, while Louisville is 25th.
The Fighting Irish are 5-1 on the season, while Louisville is unbeaten, at 5-0. Notre Dame is listed at -6.5 in this game, with 53.5 points as the listed total.
Fighting Irish Battle Tested in 2023
Marcus Freeman and his Notre Dame Fighting Irish are coming off back-to-back hotly contested games. There is no rest in the future, as they have this game on the road and then will go home and host Notre Dame.
In Week four, the Irish lost in the final seconds at home to Ohio State, and then last week, they won in the final seconds at Duke.
The Irish are one of the top defensive teams in all of College Football. Notre Dame is allowing just 13 points per game. Offensively, they are also inside the Top 20.
The Irish have scored 39.5 points per game. Sam Hartman has come to Notre Dame and become the signal caller. The former Wake Forest quarterback has tossed for 1,458 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.
Audric Estime leads the rushing attack for the Fighting Irish, with 95 carries, 672 yards, and seven touchdowns on the season. Notre Dame started the season with four straight wins, allowing just 47 points in those games.
Louisville Succeeding under New Leadership
Seeing them off to such a hot start has surprised Louisville. The Cardinals are led by Jeff Brohm, who left Purdue at the end of last season. The best win on the Cardinals’ schedule has been last week on the road at North Carolina State. The Cardinals allowed just 10 points in that win.
On the season, much like Notre Dame, Louisville has been very good defensively. The Cardinals are allowing just 17.2 points per game. Offensively, the Cardinals are scoring 37 points per game.
The Cardinals pass for 301 yards per game, led by their signal caller Jack Plummer. He has thrown 11 touchdown passes, with five of them to Jamari Thrash. Thrash has 444 receiving yards and 22 receptions.
Louisville is on the road next week at Pittsburgh before their bye week. After the bye, the Cardinals have three home games against Duke, Virginia Tech, and Virginia.
Irish Win Tight One
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are used to tight games at this point. Louisville has played two out of their last three in competitive games. The Cardinals beat Indiana 21-14 in Week three. Look for this game to be competitive as well. Louisville will have a plan to slow down the Irish offense.
Do not be surprised if this game comes down to the end again. In the end, we will bet Louisville +6.5, but if betting moneyline, the Irish win this game in a tight one late.
