After successfully avenging their loss against Minnesota by knocking off No. 24 Indiana, the No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions see a nationally-ranked foe on their schedule for the third week in a row as they head to Columbus, Ohio, to face the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes. This is, without a doubt, the Lions’ toughest game of the season, and if they truly want to get into the mix for the College Football Playoff, they will need a win on Saturday. This is going to be as tall a task as some of these guys have ever had in their lives, so we’ll see how they perform.
Ohio State, on the other hand, has been cruising along, knocking off good teams left and right, proving just how dangerous it can be. This is a team that is built to be great from top to bottom, and as they sit in the No. 2 spot in the national rankings, that is exactly what they have been. A team of players that you can’t stop but can hope to simply limit. They get their star defensive end, Chase Young, back for this one as they look to make it 11-0 and clinch a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game.
The spread for this game has the Buckeyes favored by a whopping 18.5 points, while the over/under is set at 57.5.
Penn State Looking For Historic Victory
Sitting at 9-1 and inside of the top 10 in the national rankings, only one thing is missing for the Nittany Lions season. That would be a trip to the College Football Playoff, which accepts only the top four teams, so a win in this one, and then some, would be the only way to make this a reality. Sean Clifford has thrown for 2,450 yards and 22 TDs and rushed for an additional five TD’s on 384 yards. Their running game features several backs, but no alpha back there. KJ Hamler makes all of the tough catches and will have to step up in a tough matchup.
Shaka Toney and Yatur Gross-Matos have been leading the Penn State pass rush, while the Nittany Lions’ offensive line will try to keep the great Young from getting to their QB in his return.
Buckeyes Trying To Stay Perfect
Ryan Day’s team has done everything except for lose this year, coming into the game with the nation’s highest-scoring offense and best scoring defense as well. Justin Fields has 31 TD passes to just one pick, completing 69 percent of his passes for 2,164 yards. JK Dobbins has 1,289 yards and 13 scores, with Master Teague III adding 744 yards and four more behind him. That duo has been exceptional and given opposing defenses fits every week. As far as the receiving game goes, the Buckeyes are extremely deep. This is a team that runs to get near the end zone and then throws when needed.
Despite a two-game suspension, Young still has 13.5 sacks on the year, and now that he is back, he is ready to wreak havoc. Watch out for him.
Ohio State Picks Up The Win
The Buckeyes will take this one. Make sure you take the points, though, Penn State will by no means lose by 19-plus points.
