After dropping the series opener at home, the Philadelphia 76ers have come back with two wins in a row. As they seek another one against the Atlanta Hawks, there is plenty at stake. This includes the chance at extra rest for Joel Embiid and the now-out Danny Green. The Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks are tied 2-2, and injuries have complicated that series. A win now would go a long way toward ending it and giving them time off.
The Hawks are desperate to win this game and keep things competitive. As a #5 seed, they have already exceeded the expectations of all those watching around the league. The Miami Heat made it last year to the NBA Finals in the same role, but there is almost no shot of that here. Trae Young has stepped up so incredibly as a leader to guide his team to a 5-3 record this postseason. Can they win to equal things at 2-2?
The injury to Green will certainly change things for Philly. Furkan Korkmaz started the second half of game 3 and may well get the nod to open game 4. He has been shooting the ball well, as has Shake Milton. That 1-2 bench duo has played a big part in keeping the offense going during cold spells. There is a lot of talent on the squad that hopes to go to the Finals.
ODDS
The game 4 spread is set at PHI -3. The over/under is 225.5 points.
76ers Seek 3-1 Lead
No lead is safe in the playoffs in the modern era. But, if you can get up ahead big, you’ll maximize your chances at winning and place all the pressure on the other team. That is what these 76ers can do with a win, going up 3-1 on the Hawks. Winning in Atlanta is no easy task, and they will have their work cut out for them for game 4. But a win could be big.
Having lost Danny Green for 2-3 weeks, the quicker they advance, the fewer games they have to play without him. Embiid seems to be at 100%, though he has hit the ground hard a few times in the series. Other players have continued to step up.
Ben Simmons covering Trae, Embiid getting Clint Capela into foul trouble, and bench scoring, are the keys to victory.
Hawks Looking to Equalize
It’s not over until it’s over. The classic saying goes like that, and it’s clear that Atlanta is a team that will continue to put their foot on the gas as things go on. “Ice” Trae will have to step up and play a big game, as he has been slowed by the differing coverages the past few contests.
Capela has been great around the rim as a lob threat and as a shot-blocker. His athletic ability has come in handy early and often in the series. The bench has been up-and-down but will have to be better for the team to have a chance.
They’ll need 10+ assists and minimal turnovers from Trae to get the win. John Collins will also need to score at least 25 points.
Sixers Win Again
3-1 lead it is. Philly will be a win away from the NBA Finals.
