The Houston Astros will host the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. Philadelphia and Houston met in the World Series a season ago, as the Astros were able to win the 2022 World Series. Unfortunately for both teams, they haven’t necessarily played too well to start the season, and many are questioning if they can get back to the same position that they were in a season to go.
Despite the 14-13 start for the Astros, this is a huge game for them in the standings. They only sit two games behind the first-place Texas Rangers in the American League West. On the other hand, Philadelphia is 15-13 and 3.5 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves.
This is going to be the third game of this three-game set as the Phillies are looking to sweep Houston. They won the first game 3-1 and the second game 6-1.
Can Philadelphia Sweep?
When looking at what the Philadelphia Phillies did last season, it’s easy to see why people do believe that this team can get back to the same position that they were in, and that’s making a World Series.
With the added edition of Trea Turner and their bullpen/rotation getting some help throughout the season, Philadelphia should be primed for another postseason run. Unfortunately, they’re currently without Bryce Harper, and it’s been a hole in their lineup.
However, they’re starting to play much better baseball as they’ve now won for straight, and that includes wins over the Seattle Mariners and two against this same Astros team. If they’re going to want to win this game, they’re going to need to be at their best. Houston is arguably still the best team in baseball, despite their early struggles.
Bailey Falter is going to be on the mound for Philadelphia this season, and he hasn’t thrown much against Houston, facing their hitters just three times in total throughout his career.
Houston Looks to Get Back on Track
Just like the Bryce Harper injury, the Astros are also struggling offensively at times because of the piece that they’re missing in their lineup. That guy is Jose Altuve.
Altuve got hit with a pitch during the 2023 World Baseball Classic and hurt his hand. He has yet to play in a game just yet, but Houston is hopeful that when he returns, they’re going to have one of the best lineups in baseball, just as they have throughout the past few seasons.
This is still a team that offers Jeremy Pena, Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, and Jose Abreu. Although those guys have been dealing with some injuries here and there, Houston is primed to find themselves in the same spot that they were a year ago, and that should mean that they start to get back on track sometime in the near future.
Philadelphia Phillies at Houston Astros Betting Pick
With the Astros facing a possible sweep on Sunday, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea to back them here. It’s not going to be an easy task for the Astros to get back on track, but if there’s one team in all of baseball that can figure things out on the fly, it’s certainly Houston.
Because of that, taking the Astros to win this game outright at -145 looks to be a great play.
