Focusing on the games this week in the NBA is funny, with all of the scuttle happening before a looming trade deadline.
The Brooklyn Nets already made a significant splash and will be at home hosting the Phoenix Suns, who will be welcoming back Devin Booker to the lineup for the first time in weeks.
Trading away Kyrie Irving was a necessary evil, as the Nets had finally been playing well together but saw their progress torpedoed by the news of Irving’s trade request.
They were able to replace Irving with a familiar face in Spencer Dinwiddie, but also were able to add Dorian Finney-Smith as well. The impact of these changes has yet to be seen on the court.
Quietly, the Suns are now poised to make a run in the Western Conference and vault themselves back towards the top of the standings. The path has been set before them.
Ahead of the tip-off, the Suns are favored on the road over the Nets at -4.5.
Welcome back to the court Devin Booker
After a long stretch of weeks, the Suns finally get to welcome Booker back into their lineup. His presence should be felt immediately and really shore up the rotation for their roster.
Since returning from injury, Chris Paul has played mostly lights out, and now the burden will be released from him with Booker’s scoring and playmaking to shake things up.
With the news of Steph Curry dropping out of the Warriors’ lineup for the foreseeable future, the Suns can now really have a chance to improve their overall record.
In a season where they have faced so much turmoil, the Suns now have the pathway set up to their advantage in the Western Conference.
Fresh and familiar faces in Brooklyn
The recent trade of Kyrie Irving has been the biggest buzz the NBA has seen in awhile. Years in the making, finally Irving gets his wish to be sent to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Dinwiddie and Finney-Smith.
Dinwiddie makes his return to Brooklyn, where he should slide into Irving’s minutes almost seamlessly.
Finney-Smith provides the Nets with an excellent rotation piece that can be flexible in just about any lineup.
All eyes will be on Kevin Durant to see if he remains quiet or makes another trade request for himself. If he returns to this roster, the Nets will still be in a good position to make some noise in the postseason.
Suns @ Nets Betting Prediction
Two teams with two vastly different situations coming into this game will make for an intriguing matchup. Both the Suns and Nets looked to be heavily involved in the trade deadline, but now we get a chance to see that play out.
Booker back in the lineup for the Suns should invigorate their team on both sides of the ball and set them up for success in this matchup. Take them to win on the road over the Nets and roll with them as the favorite in this game at -4.5.
