The return that everyone has been waiting for will happen on Wednesday night when the Phoenix Suns go on the road to take on the Charlotte Hornets.
Kevin Durant will be making his first appearance in a Suns’ uniform. His presence on the team should be felt immediately and will definitely vault them up a level as a contender for the NBA Finals.
On the other side, the Hornets just got some unfortunate news in their most recent game as LaMelo Ball fractured his foot and will be out for the rest of the season.
Their team was on the road to nowhere and will likely end up at the top of the lottery anyways, but losing a top player like Ball hurts a franchise no matter the situation.
The story of this game will almost entirely focus around Durant’s return and how he fits in with the rest of the Suns roster.
Even with the Suns being on the road, they take the major favorite ahead of this game Wednesday night by -10 over the Hornets.
How good will Durant make this team?
In terms of contenders in the west, the Suns were already at least in the conversation before acquiring Kevin Durant in the blockbuster trade at the deadline.
With him now on the roster, everything opens up more for Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton on the court.
As a team, the rest of their bench is a little bit sparse, and they were unable to address those concerns at the deadline as well. Without a doubt, this is one of the best starting lineups in the league.
Chris Paul has never played with someone as prolific as Durant, so it is exciting to see what that will do for his game as the floor general.
Picking up the pieces for next year
The Hornets were already sellers at the trade deadline when they gave up Mason Plumlee, who was having a career season, for next to nothing.
Losing LaMelo Ball now just puts them in a spot as one of the worst rosters in the league without much to highlight otherwise.
Gordon Hayward has a chance to feast and at least put up some numbers, but it makes it a possibility that he may be rested as well.
Their focus will likely be towards next season and where they will fall in the draft order to try and land one of the top prospects from this year’s draft class.
Suns @ Hornets Betting Prediction
The two rosters of these teams set side-by-side of each other really is no contest on paper.
Phoenix has all of the superior talent and the pedigree to back up their squad. Charlotte is a team that has not been relevant all season and just lost their best player.
Expect the Hornets to come out with a little bit of a hangover as they figure out how to function without Ball in the back court. Take the Suns on the road as the favorite at -10.
