Cincinnati Reds vs Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

The Atlanta Braves continued to stay hot on Tuesday with a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. They’ll try to do it again on Wednesday in the second game of a three-game series. Atlanta is the slight favorites at home with a moneyline of -115, while Cincinnati’s moneyline is listed at -105.

With Tuesday’s win, the Braves have now won six of their last seven games. During that stretch, they climbed above .500 for the first time this season and have managed to stay above .500. Most importantly, they sit just one game behind the Philadelphia Phillies at the top of the AL East standings.

As for the Reds, they’ve now lost back-to-back games after putting together a five-game winning streak. It has dropped them seven games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central after they had started to close the gap. However, the Reds are still just 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot and very much in the playoff race.

Wade Into It

The Cincinnati Reds will look to Wade Miley to help them avoid a three-game losing streak. Miley has made 20 starts this season, going 9-4 with a 2.75 ERA, making him the team’s most consistent starter. There is no sign of Miley tiring out this season, as he posted a 2.51 ERA in July and tossed seven scoreless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his first start of August last week.

Of course, Miley will have to face an Atlanta offense that is in the middle of its best stretch of the season, even without Ronald Acuna. The Braves are averaging 5.6 runs per game over their last seven games. Adam Duvall and Jorge Soler have both been huge additions at the trade deadline, while Dansby Swanson and Austin Riley both have an OPS over 1.000 over the last two weeks.

Ready for the Rollercoaster

The Atlanta Braves will send Touki Toussaint to the mound on Wednesday, as he is being asked to fill the final spot in the Atlanta rotation right now. Toussaint made his season debut less than a month ago and has already experienced ups and downs coming back from injury. He was outstanding in his first two starts but has come back to earth in the last two, giving up nine earned runs over 8.2 innings.

The Cincinnati lineup he’ll face on Wednesday is likely the best lineup that Toussaint has faced this year. Granted, the Reds have been held to three runs or less in three straight games, but they are still averaging six runs per game in August. Nick Castellanos is back from the IL, and Joey Votto’s power numbers over the last month have been off the charts, while Jonathan India and Jesse Winker are also swinging good bats at the moment as well.

Arms Race

Even if the Atlanta lineup might be in a better place than the Cincinnati offense right now, the Reds have the more reliable starting pitcher in this lineup. The Reds also have a better bullpen coming out of the trade deadline, making them a little more reliable late in games.

In a tossup, bet on the Reds to beat the Braves on Wednesday.
