“The Granddaddy of Them All” is set to kick off on New Year’s Day. The Ohio State Buckeyes will take on the Washington Huskies in the 2019 edition of the Rose Bowl Game from Pasadena, California. Ohio State comes finished the regular season as the number six ranked team in the final College Football Playoff Poll, while Washington checks in at number nine.
Washington had an interesting 2018 regular season, but finished with a 10-3 regular season record and won the Pac-12 Championship. The Huskies struggled to find consistent offense, but their defense carried them into this game. Ohio State suffered a horrible 49-20 loss to Purdue during the regular season but finished with a 12-1 overall record. The Ohio State Buckeyes are -6.5 over the Washington Huskies in the Rose Bowl.

Ohio State Must Play Some Defense
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer knows that his defense will be tested in this game. The Buckeyes gave up just over 25 points per game this season, but they struggled mightily a few weeks. Ohio State gave up over 160 rushing yards per game, and Washington could expose this weakness in the Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes have recorded 39 sacks on defense this season, and they will need to get pressure on the QB in this game.
Quarterback Dwayne Haskins could be playing in his final game for Ohio State, but what a year he had. Haskins set new Big Ten Conference records with 4,580 yards and 47 touchdowns this season, and he can really sling the ball. The Buckeyes are averaging more than 13 yards per receptions this season, and they will likely throw the deep ball early and often in this game. Ohio State can score points in a hurry, but they face one of the best defenses in the nation in this game.
How Will Washington Score?
The Washington Huskies enter this game knowing that they will need to score some points on offense to keep up with Ohio State. Washington managed just 10 points in the Pac-12 Championship Game, but face a struggling defense. Running back Myles Gaskin should feast on a struggling Ohio State rush defense. Gaskin ran for over 1,100 yards this season, and the senior will look to carry his team in his final game in a Huskies uniform.
Linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven leads a ferocious Washington defense that doesn’t give up many points. Burr-Kirven has recorded 165 total tackles this season and should have a solid career in the NFL. Washington has allowed just 15.5 points per game this season and will look to put a ton of pressure on Dwayne Haskins. If the Huskies can slow down the Ohio State passing attack, they should have a real chance to win.
Buckeyes Cruise To Victory
Ohio State should have been in the College Football Playoffs, but a random loss to Purdue cost them greatly. The Buckeyes have an offense that can score on anyone in the country, and that includes Washington. Washington was able to limit teams in the Pac-12, but they haven’t faced a quarterback like Haskins all season. Look for Ohio State to put up a huge number on offense in this game, and the Huskies can’t play that style of football. Bet Ohio State -6.5 over Washington in the Rose Bowl.
