The Spurs will be in Dallas to play the Mavs as games return after the All-Star break. Believe it or not, each of these teams has the same number of wins to this point in the year. San Antonio is at 18-14, while the Mavs enter action with an 18-16 record next to their name.
It has been an impressive season for a Spurs team that didn’t really have any expectations. They went 5-3 in the bubble, playing some excellent basketball in those eight games.
They brought back mostly the same core players and kept their starting lineup practically the same. Jakob Poeltl is proving to be an elite defensive player, while guys like Lonnie Walker and Keldon Johnson have continued to show improvement across the board.
Dallas, meanwhile, has had several seasons contained within this one. They have had their ups and downs but have not looked perfect by any means.
Luka Doncic has been on an island by himself often, and there have been Kristaps Porzingis trade rumors swirling. Whatever the future of this team is beyond Doncic, remains to be seen. They play hard, but they do lack talent at a lot of positions.
ODDS:
Wednesday night’s spread is currently set at Mavs -4.5. The over/under is set at 221 points.
Spurs Looking for Improvements
In what has been a pretty good season for the Spurs, we could see them make some big trades in the next few weeks. LaMarcus Aldridge’s fit is not what it was before, and moving DeMar DeRozan could allow Devin Vassell to take on a larger role. He has proven to be one of the best defensive players in the league when he’s had the chance to play.
Patty Mills has been a Spur for a long time and has been one of the best sixth men in the league throughout the year. But he could also be on the block as another trade chip. Ideally, you should want to keep at least one or two veterans here as not only a mentor but a player with big-game experience.
Let’s see if they can beat Dallas.
Mavs Seeking Win in Texas Battle
There was a day when the Mavs playing the Spurs meant you had to drop everything and watch. Whenever Tim Duncan battled with Dirk Nowitzki, some incredible things would happen. You just had to be watching the game to see it live, or it wouldn’t be the same.
Doncic has been having another incredible season, and it’s truly impossible to believe that he’s not even 23 years of age yet. He makes players on every single team look foolish trying to stop him, and he’s putting up MVP numbers for a second straight season. The hype for him was huge before the 2018 draft, and he’s making Phoenix and Sacramento regret not picking him.
Dallas needs to get on a roll and separate themselves from the rest of the conference.
Spurs Get the Road Win
