The Seattle Seahawks square off with the host Los Angeles Rams Sunday night in a game critical for both teams regarding the postseason.
By continuing its hot streak last week, Seattle finally overtook San Francisco atop the division and would have a bye week if the playoffs started today. The Seahawks have been a tremendous two-way team and are looking like a serious contender to get back to the Super Bowl. If they were to get there, it is hard to pick out any one team in the AFC that could have their way with them. Seattle is an impressive group of players, and Pete Carroll continues to coach well.
The Rams, on the other hand, are still fighting for their playoff lives. If they were 7-5 and in the AFC, they would have no issue getting that second Wild Card spot. In the NFC, though, they find themselves behind the Vikings who have impressed but still trail Green Bay in the NFC North. It is a whole bunch of underachieving for the Rams, who won the NFC a season ago. Their offense has had some big weeks but has overall regressed significantly from where they were a year ago. It is unclear who deserves the most blame, but having Jared Goff for several years at a high cost is a bad look.
There is no spread for this game, as it’s a pick ’em. The over/under is set at 46.5.
Seattle Continues To Impress
The Seahawks have never had a losing record with Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback, and they have already clinched another winning season. At 10-2, they sit tied atop a division that has proven to be extremely competitive. Seattle’s running game with Chris Carson is the best it has been since Marshawn Lynch left, and the Seahawks’ receivers have all stepped up. The drafting of DK Metcalf has proven to be far better than they could have ever imagined it to be. We’ll see how their defense can get it done Sunday night.
The Seahawks’ defense has been impressive, to say the least, with a pass rush that gets the job done. They have a tremendous linebacking corps and a kicker that isn’t too bad. No weakness.
Trying To Keep Hope Alive
After a team made a trip to the Super Bowl, missing the playoffs or not advancing far the next year was commonplace in the 2000s and early 2010s. That has changed with the dominance of the Patriots, among other teams, so for Los Angeles to miss the playoffs would be a very bad thing this year. Goff has significantly regressed but is not someone you can even consider benching because of past success and that contract. The Rams have a decent offensive line, an elite RB, and some fantastic receivers. Yet Los Angeles has had weeks this season of producing almost no yardage.
The Rams added Jalen Ramsey to spruce up the secondary, but former Ram Marcus Peters has turned into a dominant corner in Baltimore while Ramsey has struggled. Eric Weddle hasn’t provided enough of an impact there.
Seattle Picks Up A Win
It will be a win for the Seahawks Sunday night. Los Angeles’ season is on the brink.
