Well, folks, it’s been a long season, but we have finally made it to the final week of the regular campaign. The playoffs start next week, and now we have teams jostling for position. The NL Central is all but clinched by the Cardinals, but they will be hoping to enter the playoffs on a high note, having been playing exceptional of late. The Brewers have gotten hot at the right time while we will likely not see the Cubs even get to October.
Arizona, on the other hand, is just looking to slow their opponents down before the postseason gets going. This is a group with a lot of potential to be far and away better in 2020, and if that does end up being the case, you heard it here first. They have got power hitters galore with some pitching that makes many teams jealous. Eduardo Escobar has been the club leader for the season, and next year he is hoping for more.
The moneyline for this game favors the Cardinals at -200, while the over/under is set at 8.5 runs.
Cardinals Driving For Division Title
The Cardinals have been hard to beat lately as the bats have done their job and the starting pitching has been doing what they were always capable of, which is shutting the opponents down. Paul Goldschmidt’s hot HR streak in the middle of the season helped to propel the offense before everybody else was able to eventually follow suit. That is what got them going, and then Marcell Ozuna got healthy again and began pounding the baseball with all of his might.
Jack Flaherty is set to make his 32nd start of the season. The 23-year-old has posted a 10-8 record with a 2.96 ERA in 182 1/3 innings of work. He has struck out 214 batters while walking 52. His velocity has impressed.
Arizona Trying To Finish Above .500
In all, this will be a year that Arizona does not want to remember. But Eduardo Escobar has 35 HRs and 118 RBI. Ketel Marte emerged as one of baseball’s best hitters, and Christian Walker let us all know that he is a true power hitter. Robbie Ray continued to be a strikeout machine, but the team could never find a closer to be a combination of healthy and consistent. That is one of many things they were missing this year as all of the teams that will be headed to the playoffs passed them by.
Mike Leake will make his 10th start of the season, having gone 3-3 thus far in 54 innings of work with the Diamondbacks after starting the season with Seattle. He has struck out 24 batters while walking six in an Arizona uniform to date.
Cardinals Claim Their 91st Win
Flaherty has been on a tear of late, and that is going to continue. One of baseball’s hottest pitchers will deliver a big line to power the team to victory.
