Minnesota Vikings fans could not have asked for a better start to their season at this point. They have won six of their first eight games and have looked like one of the league’s top teams. The only issue with this team is that they are not in first place in the NFC North because the Green Bay Packers are ahead of them at 7-1. Minnesota took an early-season defeat against their division foes but will have a chance to right the ship in front of their home fans in Week 16.
The Kansas City Chiefs just took a loss to those same pesky Packers in primetime with Matt Moore at the helm sans Patrick Mahomes. And Mahomes will likely miss this game too before making his return against the Tennessee Titans in Week 10. The Chiefs have absolutely no reason to rush him back, with a 1.5-game lead on the closest team within the AFC West, with rest being the best remedy. They have been competitive and almost knocked Green Bay off with Moore running the offense. It says a lot about how the system is designed for success.
The spread for the weekend showdown currently favors the Vikings by three points (MIN -3).
Minnesota Looks For Its Seventh Win
The Vikings enter this week’s matchup having won four games in a row since their loss against the Chicago Bears. And best of all, they will have Stefon Diggs still on the roster past the deadline as the team’s leading receiver too. He has been stellar the last few games, with Kirk Cousins really making an effort to find him regularly. He and Adam Thielen form one of the game’s most underrated and impressive wide-receiving duos. Minnesota ranks 10th in points for and just third in points allowed. This is quite the group.
Their stellar pass rush is led by Danielle Hunter, who is finally starting to get the attention that he deserves for being as good at his craft as he is. Hunter has eight sacks, while Everson Griffen has recorded 4.5.
KC Trying To Bounce Back
After losing to Green Bay last week, the Chiefs hope to avoid a second consecutive loss to an NFC North team. The Chargers just scraped by against Chicago and pulled into third in the division, a half-game behind the Raiders. The AFC North has been surprisingly weak as a whole, with Kansas City having a 1.5-game lead, making them comfortable enough to sit Mahomes another week before bringing him back. They don’t look quite as good as they did last year, but they have a great receiving corps and a solid O-Line. The defense continues to be the weakness here.
They did hold Aaron Rodgers to just 249 yards of passing, but they could not keep Aaron Jones in check. He has been phenomenal the last several weeks and torched the Chiefs on the ground and through the air. They will have their hands full with Dalvin Cook.
Minnesota Wins On The Road
This will be another loss for Kansas City, which cannot wait to get Mahomes back.
