In most professions, spending 20 years with one company and then leaving usually means you won’t return. The NFL does not quite work like that. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers will pay a visit to New England and the Pats in a game that promises to be very interesting.
Of course, TB12 has never faced New England, as he spent two decades with them. And for the first time, he’s coming back to play them, a game that will take most of the headlines for the week. He has already won a Super Bowl and posted a 13-6 regular-season record as the signal-caller in Tampa Bay. It was obviously a move that was best for him.
As for NE, they struggled to a 7-9 mark a year ago, but they’re back with a new QB. It is no surprise that nobody went and picked up Cam Newton. He’s not NFL material at this point, not like their rookie Mac Jones is. The Pats are off to a bit of a slow start but have a lot of time to turn things around.
As things heat up and words go around prior to the start of this one, it is past vs. present. Brady going against New England. Who would have ever thought we’d see the day?
Betting Odds & Lines
The spread for the game favors visiting TB -7. The over/under is set at 49.5 points. The NE moneyline is +240, and the TB moneyline is -300.
Bucs Seek to Get Back on Track
Following a tough loss to the Rams a week ago, this is all about bouncing back for the Bucs. They can’t drop multiple games in a row. The league’s highest-scoring offense is out to try and remind folks that they can run the score up as well as any team in the NFL.
They haven’t scored fewer than 24 in any of their prior ballgames and will hope to keep that trend up. They will be doing it without Rob Gronkowski, though, who got hurt in last week’s game. O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate will get a lot more reps as a result.
And Antonio Brown is also back. They have plenty of targets.
Pats Seek Brady Revenge Game
New England has managed just 54 points in three games this year. Even so, the ball is moving a bit better than it did in 2020, with Cam struggling to complete passes. They allow just 17 points per game, so they make sure to muck things up whenever possible.
They have losses to Miami and New Orleans, with a Week 2 win over the Jets in the books. Mac has two TD passes against three picks, with 737 yards. Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith each have ten catches, but neither guy has been able to show much prowess yet, which is surprising given their success on past teams.
The defense, as good as it is, can’t win this along. The D needs to stifle its former QB and hope it’s enough.
Bucs Win
The Pats can boo/cheer all they want. Brady is going to dominate this game. Bucs will get the W by more than a TD.
