Another great bowl game on our hands. The Alamo Bowl is one of the most exciting bowl games of the 2022 college football bowl season. This game is on December 29, at 8:00 p.m. There is a ton of offensive talent on both sides as Texas and Washington enter the Alamo Bowl. In place of standout running back Bijan Robinson, who opted out to get ready for the NFL Draft, the Longhorns will start Quinn Ewers against a weak Washington defense. The Longhorns are coming into this game with a record of 8-4, while the Huskies are coming in with a 10-2 record. On the other side, the Huskies will boast one of the top passing attacks in the nation with starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. We have not heard much about the Huskies this year, which means we will see how talented they really are facing up against the Longhorns. Texas is listed at -3.5 over Washington.
Texas Longhorns
Texas is without their top running back.
The Longhorns will be hurting coming into this game without their running back, Robinson. Robinson was a key player for the Longhorns this season with 258 rushing attempts and ran for 1,580 yards. The players that the Longhorns will have to put their trust in will be Quinn Ewers and Xavier Worthy. Ewers has been a solid freshman quarterback for the Longhorns with 1,808 passing yards this season and has added 14 touchdowns to his resume. Ewers has connected with his guy Worthy a lot this season with having 53 receptions on the season for 676 yards. An impressive fact about Worthy is that he has had nine touchdowns this season for the Longhorns. These two players will be the key factors in the bowl game against the Huskies.
Washington Huskies
Washington is on a six-game win streak.
While many people do not hear much about the Huskies, they should open their eyes during this game. The Huskies have had one of the toughest schedules I have seen with teams like Oregon, Oregon State, Michigan State, and UCLA. The Huskies have had a great season so far and are looking to take their talent to Texas. The key factors for this Huskies team have been Michael Penix Jr. and Rome Odunze. Penix Jr. has been unbelievable for the Huskies this year with being able to throw for 4,354 yards this season with 29 touchdowns. Penix Jr. is ranked second in the ESPN rankings for passing yards this season. Penix Jr.’s number one target would be Odunze who has 70 receptions on the year for 1,088 yards. These two players are the underdogs going into this game, but I believe they will prove many people wrong.
Texas Longhorns vs. Washington Huskies Pick and Prediction
This game will be a battle and a close game. With Robinson being out for the Longhorns and putting a lot of pressure on Ewers for his first bowl game, it will be interesting to watch. Luckily, for the Longhorns this is a home game since the game will be played in Texas. For the Huskies, Penix Jr. and Odunze have had a great season so far and I see them carrying that onto the bowl game.
Washington +3.5 is the pick to play for this one.
