On Saturday night, the Texas Rangers will take on the Los Angeles Angels in the second game of their three-game series in LA. The Rangers are 25-23 on the season while the Angels are 22-28.
Last Time Out
The Rangers are coming off a 4-3 win on Friday night. Drew Smyly had a solid game, going six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four. The bullpen came in and was impressive, going three innings without allowing a single run. Shin-Soo Choo had a great day at the plate, going 2 for 5 with a solo home run. Hunter Pence went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBI and scored a run. Asdrubal Cabrera went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Griffin Canning started the game for Los Angeles on Friday night and went five innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out five. The bullpen came in and gave up three runs in four innings on four hits and two walks while striking out six. Jonathan Lucretia has a good night at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a solo home run. Brian Goodwin had a solid night and went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and two RBI. David Fletcher, Mike Trout, and Tommy La Stella each recorded a hit in this game.
Pitching Matchup
Mike Minor will get the start for the Rangers on Saturday night. He is 5-3 with a 2.64 ERA in 10 starts this season. He has a 1.13 WHIP with 67 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings. Last year he went 12-8 with a 4.18 ERA. Elvis Andrus has been solid against Skaggs, going 7 for 16 with a home run. Shin-Soo Choo is 5 for 11 against Skaggs, and Nomar Mazara is 4 for 13. Rougned Odor is hitless against Skaggs, going 0 for 11 in his career.
Tyler Skaggs will be on the mound for the Angels in this one. He is 4-4 with a 5.01 ERA in eight starts this season and has a 1.40 WHIP with 40 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings. Last year he went 8-10 with a 4.02 ERA. Jonathan Lucroy is the only Angel that has faced Mike Minor in his career. He has gone 4 for 10 and has a home run in his career against Minor.
The Prediction
The Angels are -130. Tyler Skaggs has had a few good seasons in his career but has battled some injuries. Minor has also had a solid career but has not ended up on the right side of things. Los Angeles has the more talented lineup and should be able to knock Minor around the park. I think Skaggs will pitch a solid game and Skaggs will keep the Rangers in check for most of the game. Take the Angels -130.
