On Monday night, the Texas Rangers will take on the Seattle Mariners in Seattle. The Rangers are coming off a 2-1 series loss to the Angels and are 25-25 on the season. The Mariners are coming off a series to the Athletics where they got swept in three games and are 23-32 on the year.
Last Time Out
The Rangers are coming off a 7-6 loss to the Angels where they led 5-1 going into the seventh inning. Ariel Jurado was solid in his start, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks striking out three. Jeffrey Springs came in and couldn’t record an out, allowing four runs on four hits, and they couldn’t recover after that. Shin-Soo Choo went 2 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBI, and Hunter Pence went 2 for 5 with a homer as well. Choo and Pence each doubled as well. Logan Forsythe and Rougned Odor each went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
The Mariners are coming off a 7-1 loss to the Athletics on Sunday. Mike Leake had another disappointing outing as he went 6 2/3, allowing five runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four. The bullpen allowed just one earned run over the next 1 1/3 innings, but the offense couldn’t get anything going. Jay Bruce was the only one that showed up to hit on Sunday. He went 3 for 4 with a double and a home run. Mitch Haniger, Domingo Santana, and Tom Murphy each went 1 for 4, and that was the entire offense for the Mariners.
Pitching Matchup
Lance Lynn will be on the mound for the Rangers on Monday. He is 6-3 with a 4.67 ERA in 10 starts this season with a 1.36 WHIP and 60 strikeouts over 61 2/3 innings. The Rangers have a couple of players with success against Milone in his career. Elvis Andrus is 10 for 27 with a home run, and Hunter Pence is 4 for 6 with a home run. Rougned Odor is 1 for 2 with a bomb, but Shin-Soo Choo is just 1 for 12 off Milone.
Tommy Milone will be making just his second start of the season after starting the year on the IL for the Mariners. He lost his first start, going five innings and allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out six. The Mariners only have two players with a lot of experience against Lynn in his career. Jay Brice has hammered him, going 15 for 36 with three home runs, and Dee Gordon has gone 4 for 16. Edwin Encarnacion has gone 1 for 4, and Domingo Santana is 0 for 2.
Prediction
The Mariners are -115. Texas has been on a roll of late, winning seven of its last 10. Seattle has been skidding ever since its hot start to the season and has lost nine of its last 10 games. The Rangers have struggled on the road, going 8-17, while the Mariners are just 10-14 at home.
Tommy Milone looked solid in his first start of the season, and I think he can keep this Rangers offense in check. Lance Lynn may have a good record, but he has not been great by any means. The Mariners have feasted on weak pitching, and I think they will get to Lynn in this one. Take the Mariners -115.
