The New York Yankees visit Progressive Field in Cleveland to face off against the Indians on Thursday night. The Yankees are 60-31 on the year, good enough for second place in the American League East division. They are 3 and a half games in back of the Boston Red Sox for the division lead. Meanwhile, the Indians are 50-41, which is good enough for first place in the American League Central division. They currently hold an 8 and a half game lead over the Twins.
This will be a matchup of two very successful pitchers this season. Luis Severino will be on the mound for the Yankees. Severino is 14-2 on the season, and is looking for what would be an impressive 15th win before the All Star break. He also has a ridiculous 2.12 ERA. For the Indians, ace Corey Kluber will get the starting nod. He is 12-4, and boasts a 2.49 ERA. They are both one good game away from nearly being on pace for 300 strikeouts on the season, having 143 and 123, respectively. The Yankees are favored in this matchup: at -122

New York Yankees
Aaron Judge has jumped ahead in nearly every stat thus far. He is leading the team in batting average: with a .281 average. He has also driven in 60 runs, while also crushing 25 home runs. He has also crossed the plate himself 65 times, making him responsible for 125 runs. He also gets on base about 40% of the time. He is definitely someone Kluber is going to try to get ahead of in the count. An obviously capable hitter, he will still have trouble with Kluber, as does everyone.
Miguel Andujar is also hitting the ball well. He has a .279 ERA. He has also driven in 39 runs, which makes him dangerous. 12 home runs round out his stats. Look for him and Judge both to make an impact.
Cleveland Indians
For Cleveland, Michael Brantley has been hitting the ball well. He has a .307 batting average. He has also driven in 52 runs, putting him not too far behind Judge. He has, however, done it more with average than with power, as he has 11 home runs as opposed to Judge’s 25.
Francisco Lindor’s stats have been very impressive. As does Judge, Lindor has 25 home runs. He also has more RBIs, with 62. His average is .295. With these hitting stats on both sides combined with the great pitching matchup, this game should be a great one to watch.
Indians Top Yankees
Regardless of the closeness in stats for both the starting pitchers and top hitters for these teams, and the better record of Severino, I believe Kluber will own this game. Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and the rest of the Yankee lineup have been strikeout magnets all season long (and for their entire careers). Kluber will make mincemeat of them, striking out 10 or more en route to his 13th victory. Bet on the Cleveland Indians at +102.
