The Toronto Blue Jays come in after splitting a four-game series with the Angels. They claimed a 7-6 win in extra innings yesterday, to improve to 36-41.
The Houston Astros have continued to be dominant, no matter their opponent, entering with eight wins in their last ten games. They are now 25 games over .500, and really have lacked weakness. Houston is the HUGE betting favorite in this game.

Toronto Blue Jays
Though their top offensive players have not been able to produce as expected, they have had a number of surprising offensive breakouts to help their offense. Yangervis Solarte has been fantastic, leading the team with 15 home runs, and 44 RBI’s, while batting .255. Teoscar Hernandez has also been impressive, launching 13 HR’s, driving in 33 runs, and he is batting .256. Surprisingly though, Justin Smoak, who been playing extremely well over the past few years, is batting just .236 with 9 HR’s and 35 RBI’s, a definite disappointment.
They have also gotten very little from Josh Donaldson, now having spent over a month on the DL, who wasn’t driving in runs or using the long ball well. The former AL MVP was playing like a shell of his former self.
The Blue Jays will send JA Happ to the mound for his sixteenth start of the season. He has been very good this year, going 9-3 with a 3.56 ERA. In 91 innings of work, he has struck out 102 and walked just 25. He allowed four runs on six hits over eight and a third innings while striking out eight against the Braves his last time out.
Houston Astros
This team has been competing at an extremely high level all throughout the season, and have posted a CRAZY, +157-run differential thus far. Their pitching has been nothing of short of legendary this year, led by old man Justin Verlander, and the rejuvenated Gerrit Cole. The most impressive part of it is that former AL CY Young Dallas Keuchel isn’t even among the top starters in this rotation, which is having a historic season. Jose Altuve is also looking like a candidate to win another AL MVP.
They will send Justin Verlander to the mound for his sixteenth start of the season. He has gone 9-2 with an astounding 1.60 ERA this year. In 107 innings, he has struck out 130 batters while walking just 21. He is 35 years of age and pitching like he’s 25. He allowed one run on six hits while striking out 10 in his last start against the Rays.
Astros win…. AGAIN
It is almost impossible to pick against the Astros these days, especially when they send Justin Verlander to the mound. He is leading baseball’s best rotation and will continue his dominance today.
The Astros offense will also give him a lot of support against JA Happ, as they torch him for six runs in his 5+ innings of work. The day will be a good one for these Astros, as they will now improve to 53-27. Bet on the Houston Astros -250 over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.
