The Kansas City Royals visit Target Field in Minneapolis on Tuesday night to take on the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is at 7:10 pm central. Kansas City is sitting at 25-65 so far this season, and it’s coming off of 10 straight losses. Their record puts them dead last in the American League Central division, and only one half game better than the Orioles, who are last in baseball. The Twins, however, are in second place in the same division with their 40-48 record. They have a long way to go, as they are 8 and a half games behind the Indians.
The seemingly hapless Ian Kennedy will be on the hill for Kansas City. Kennedy is a sad 1-8 on the season and has a 5.11 ERA. He will need a huge bounce back performance from what he has been doing if the Royals are going to win this one. Meanwhile, Aaron Slegers will get the starting nod for the Twins. He is sitting at 1-0, with a 2.38 ERA. He will look to keep his record perfect. The Twins are heavily favored to take this one: at -164.

Kansas City Royals
Royals fans haven’t had much to be happy about this season, but Whit Merrifield could be considered as having a successful year at the plate. Merrifield is hitting .303 so far this season, and has driven in 29 runs. He also has 5 home runs. In order for the Royals to have any hope in this one, Merrifield will need to hit the ball. Big name Mike Moustakas has also impressed. His average may only be .251, but he has also driven in 56 runs, over one-sixth of the Royals’ combined 311 runs so far this year. If you count his 39 runs scored, he accounts for nearly one-third of that number. It’s safe to assume that, for the Royals to have a chance in this game, they will need both of these men to play well.
Minnesota Twins
This season, the Twins could have changed their stadium name to Eddie Rosario Field. He is leading them nearly across the board, except for walks, which Dozier is leading. Other than that, he has been carrying the team. Rosario is batting .300, and has driven in 54 runs. He has also hit 18 home runs. His 54 runs batted in are actually surpassed by the 58 runs he has scored. The Twins are clearly the better team in this matchup, but since he is so much of what has made them that, they will need him to perform well in this one.
Twins Top Royals
Regardless of how much Minnesota has relied on Rosario, the Royals just don’t seem to match up. Kennedy has just plain not been pitching well all season long and they rely so much on Moustakas to produce runs. The difference between this and the Twins’ reliance on Rosario is that Rosario is hitting the ball with a good average, while Moustakas is less reliable.
