Entering at 17-5, the Utah Jazz have proven themselves to be one of the best teams in the NBA this year. Their opponent, the Charlotte Hornets, has started 10-12. As Utah and Charlotte meet up in North Carolina, the game promises to feature a lot of excitement in it, and this should have all the eyeballs on it.
Utah had their long winning streak snapped recently but have responded by picking up a few more wins. They are atop the loaded Western Conference to date and have proven that this may be no fluke. They have not made it to the conference finals with this core before, but that is likely the expectation this year. If they can avoid the Warriors in the first round, that would likely help their chances of advancing, too.
Charlotte was hyped up coming into the year because they drafted LaMelo Ball, who has gotten as much love from prominent outlets as Zion Williamson did last year. But this is actually a very solid team. Gordon Hayward is playing like an All-Star, while Terry Rozier is proving to be an elite long-ball shooter. Miles Bridges is also dunking on everyone. Literally.
ODDS:
The spread for Friday night favors the Jazz by 7.5 points. The over/under is set at 222.5.
Jazz Seeking 18th Win in 23 Games
It has been a very impressive year for the Jazz so far, as they hope to keep it going here. The addition of Jordan Clarkson at last year’s deadline is just what they needed, as they now have as good a sniper as any team does hanging on the bench. He has proven to be a legitimate sixth man of the year candidate, playing even better than when he was leading the Cavs to some incredible showings.
Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert have been a bit quiet statistically speaking but have continued to make a positive impact. Royce O’Neale seems to be making even more plays than a season ago, and Joe Ingles is getting it done. Derrick Favors is definitely a better backup than Tony Bradley.
To win this one, a strong start would benefit Utah. Charlotte can shoot themselves back into any game.
Hornets Looking for Upset
If you look through the Hornets schedule, you will see some pretty impressive wins for them recently. They are a tremendously young bunch that is hungry and looking to improve. They even won their last game without PJ Washington, which is a sign that the players are finally here to make James Borrego a winning coach. In the last two years, this was not really the case.
Malik Monk has been playing great off the bench as of late, knocking down nine threes in an overtime win a few days ago. They gave the top-seeded 76ers a run for their money earlier in the week as well, proving that they need to be taken seriously. Spending $120 million for Gordon Hayward was just what they needed.
Jazz Win, Sorry Charlotte
Utah will keep it rolling as they earn another win. The Hornets are their latest victims. 18-5!
