In a College Football game on Saturday, the Virginia Cavaliers will head to Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, to take on the Volunteers of Tennessee. This will be the first game for both teams in 2023.
Virginia is coming into the game coming off a really rough season a year ago. After tragedy hit the program in November, they did not play their final two games of the season. The Cavaliers finished the season with a 3-7 record, including 1-6 in conference play. The lone conference win for the Cavaliers was at Georgia Tech.
For Tennessee, they are coming off an Orange Bowl win a season ago. The Volunteers went 11-2, including 6-2 in conference play. The Volunteers are led by head coach Josh Heupel.
The Tennessee Volunteers are massive favorites in this game. The Volunteers are listed at -28.5 in this game. The total for this game comes in at 56.5 points.
Long Road Ahead for Cavaliers
2023 seems to be a season that the Cavaliers are going to learn a few things. The folks in Charlottesville may not get elite-level football from this squad.
Virginia will feature five new additions to the offense. One of those includes Tony Muskett, who is the starting quarterback for the team. Of course, he comes in after Brennan Armstrong left the program after throwing for more than 2,220 yards a season ago.
Armstrong was also the top rusher on the team. This season, the Cavaliers hope Kobe Pace can lead that charge. He and Perris Jones, who got 81 carries a season ago, will be the main two leading that charge.
The biggest issue for the 2022 team was their inability to get off the field when needed and then punching the ball into the end zone. The Cavaliers scored just 16.7 points per game last year.
High Hopes in Knoxville
The fans in Knoxville cannot wait for the start of the Tennessee Volunteers football season. The Volunteers won their bowl game 31-14 over Clemson, and they were ready to start 2023. The two losses a season ago were on the road at Georgia and a terrible blowout loss at South Carolina just before Thanksgiving.
The Volunteers were the highest-scoring team in all of College Football season a year ago. The Volunteers scored 46.1 points per game. Tennessee passed for 326 yards per game and rushed for nearly 200 per game. Defensively, the Volunteers allowed opponents to score 23.5 per game.
Offensively, wide receiver Bru McCoy returns after catching 52 passes for 667 yards a season ago. Of course, the Volunteers will miss Jalin Hyatt, the top receiver, who finished with a team-high 15 touchdowns. Joe Milton is in as the starting quarterback after Hendon Hooker finished his college career.
Milton threw ten touchdowns on 82 passing attempts a season ago. Jabari Small also returns to the offense after rushing for 734 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
Blowout in Nashville
This game has all the makings of a nasty one. How is Virginia going to score? Also, how are the Cavaliers going to slow or stop the Volunteers? This game will be over at halftime. We expect Tennessee to score two touchdowns in every quarter in this game.
Our final score prediction for this game is the Tennessee Volunteers 56-10 over the Virginia Cavaliers.
The bet for this game is the Tennessee Volunteers -28.5 over the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday.
