We have two of the best teams in hockey going at it on Tuesday night as the Washington Capitals will travel to Colorado and take on the Colorado Avalanche. This has a chance to be a preview of the Stanley Cup finals if both teams can continue playing the way they have all season.
Neither has been as dominant as some expected coming into the year, but many realize that they’re as legit as they come and will eventually turn it around. If they don’t, they likely will when it matters most during the playoffs. Colorado comes in as the favorite on their home ice at -155 and that certainly makes sense.
Avalanche Looking for Fourth Straight Win?
Although the Avalanche aren’t having that dominant year that they were looking for after winning the Stanley Cup, they’ve now won three games in a row and will look for their fourth straight on Tuesday night.
Colorado has a stacked roster with many of the same players they had last season. Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar are the guys that will carry the Avalanche when it matters most. Unfortunately, Makar is out with an injury, but the other guys can still pick up the slack here.
MacKinnon has been on a tear this season with 51 points already in just 34 games. If he can continue playing at this type of level on Tuesday night, Colorado will be in a good position to win the game.
Can Washington Get the Upset?
Despite what the sportsbooks think, it would be tough to say that the Washington Capitals are an underdog here. They have more points than Colorado and are also a legit threat to win the Stanley Cup. Washington hasn’t played too well recently, sitting at 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and losing their most recent contest against the Vegas Golden Knights by four goals.
If they want to get back on track here, they need to get stops. Their offense has done the trick for most of the season, and that’s because of the starpower they have. Alex Ovechkin has still continued to impress at 37, scoring 30 goals and dishing out 22 assists for 52 points in 48 games. He needs to get going for Washington if they want a chance of winning this game.
Washington Capitals vs. Colorado Avalanche Prediction
When thinking about the game between the Washington Capitals and Colorado Avalanche, it might not be a bad idea to play the Capitals here for +135 odds. If they can come out and play well in Colorado, they have a legit chance of winning this game. When also factoring in some of the injuries to the Avalanche, it seems logical to take a chance here and bet on Washington.
This should be an exciting contest with a playoff feel, so it could go either way. For plus odds, there might be some value in taking Washington and playing it with just .5u or 1u.
