Los Angeles Dodgers
Hyun-jin Ryu is having a great season. Ryu has a good mid-90s fastball, but his out pitch is his changeup. His changeup induces lots of swings and misses, and that’s what he will need against the hard-hitting Diamondbacks lineup.
Matt Kemp has been having a good season for Los Angeles. Kemp is hitting .311 so far this season. However, along with the good batting average, Kemp only has 13 RBIs so far. Other, higher producing players are upwards of 20 or more RBIs already. This is a sign that the rest of the lineup needs to find a way to get on base, in order to give Kemp a chance to drive them in.
Also, catcher Yasmani Grandal is having a good season in the batter’s box. Grandal is .311 on the year. He has also driven in 20 runs, which is a good sign for him in terms of clutch hitting. Los Angeles will likely need more clutch hitting out of him to win on Wednesday. Look for the Dodgers to consider moving these two close in the lineup in an attempt to manufacture some runs.
The disappointment for the Dodgers this year has been Yasiel Puig. Puig is hitting a miniscule .193 on the year. He had also been punched out 19 times, not good but also not bad when compared to players like Giancarlo Stanton. Having only walked 7 times on the year, there is an obvious need for improved plate discipline in Puig’s case. If Puig shows a lack of plate discipline, Godley will bury his plus curveball, and get Puig to swing and miss.
Arizona Diamondbacks
On the mound for Arizona, Zack Godley has been effective as well. His curveball has been very working for him en route to his 4 win start. It will be absolutely essential for him to get ahead in the count when facing players like Kemp and Grandal.
For Arizona, David Peralta is lighting it up from the plate. Peralta is .302 on the year. He has an above average amount of RBIs at 17 , while smacking 5 home runs. A nice game from Peralta would certainly help out Arizona’s case.
Diamondbacks Top Dodgers
Godley has been terrific this year, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. If he is able to get his great curveball going, the Dodgers better watch out. He will be able to drop it into the zone and also bury it into the.diet against the overly aggressive hitters. Look for him to use this strategy against Kemp and Grandal. Take the Diamondbacks at -120.
