It’s a battle of AFC East teams, as the New York Jets take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Both teams have seen struggles as of late, as they have dropped two in a row. The New York Jets are 4-5 on the season, while the Buffalo Bills come into the game with a 5-5 mark.
The Jets and Bills both trail the Miami Dolphins at the top of the AFC East standings. The Buffalo Bills come into the game as the favorites. Buffalo is listed at -7 over the Jets, with a total of 40.5 for this Sunday affair. The Jets beat the Bills in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.
Buffalo Looking a Tough Times
The struggles are real in Buffalo. Losers of back to back games, three out of their last four and four out of their last six overall. The Bills fired their offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey after the loss to the Broncos. Buffalo still ranks 8th in the league in points scored, with 26 per game.
Stefon Diggs is not happy with his role with the Bills. The 29 year old out of Maryland has 73 receptions, 868 yards and 7 touchdowns on the season. The last time he played the Jets, he caught 10 of 13 targets for 102 yards and a touchdown. On the season, Diggs has 7 touchdowns.
The problems in the offense are with the run game. Buffalo simply cannot effectively run the football. The Bills are 13th in the league, but have been so up and down, they are unpredictable. James Cook leads the team with 615 yards on the ground, but his fumble in the loss to the Broncos was a tone setter.
Buffalo has a tough schedule from here on out. The Bills have this home game, and then will play at Philadelphia, at Kansas City, and then come home and host the Cowboys.
Jets On the Brink
There has been plenty of talk about the play of Zach Wilson, who has played every snap since Aaron Rodgers got hurt in Week 1. Wilson has been up and down, and mostly down. While he has moved the football for the Jets, getting it into the end zone has been a major struggle. Wilson has 5 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on the season.
It appears Wilson will play, but there has been talk about Aaron Rodgers returning soon. The Jets are in need of a win, but hurrying the veteran back does not seem like the best choice. Breece Hall anchors the offense in the run game. Hall has 521 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Garrett Wilson leads the receiving core with 642 yards and two touchdowns.
New York has three straight home games after this. The Jets are taking on the Dolphins, Falcons and Texans, before a trip to Miami to take on the Dolphins again. Just before Christmas, the Jets host Washington.
Tight One in Orchard Park
The Buffalo Bills and New York Jets have seen all kinds of struggles this season. This is a battle of who will not screw up the most, first. Look for an interesting game, but until they show any different it’s hard to see this more than a one score game. Buffalo turns the ball over too much to blow teams out.
In a battle, we will bet on the New York Jets +7, even with the Buffalo Bills likely winning this game at home.
