One of the biggest upsets of the year and a second loss in a row for a strong home team helped the books and sharps out on Sunday. Denver lost on the road at St. Louis, a city where the Broncos have never won a game. The Broncos were 9.5 point road favorites and -450 on the money line. The line had been bet down to 8 at some sharp books before kickoff.
The New Orleans Saints lost at home to the Cincinnati Bengals. This was the first time in five years that the Saints lost back-to-back home games. The Saints were -7 and -330. Both the Broncos and Saints were picked heavily by public bettors.
Some of these losses were returned when the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots both won and covered. New England was a top money line pick as a road underdog.
Totals with 70 percent or more of the tickets on one side went 3-5 on Sunday. The public lost its two biggest picks on totals; overs on Bengals/Saints and 49ers/Giants.
Denver scored its fewest points in the Peyton Manning era to keep the Broncos’ game with the Rams under the total. Seahawks/Chiefs under and Falcons/Panthers over were also losers.
The public hit Vikings/Bears and Patriots/Colts overs, as well as the under on Raiders/Chargers.
