It’s sure to be an exciting night, as the Jets make their way to Toronto to square off with the Maple Leafs. Both of these teams have been very good this season, looking like two of the better ones in the talented North division. Not only will they meet on Thursday, but they’ll square off on April 21st and 23rd as well to conclude their regular season get-togethers.
Winnipeg has gotten a lot from its goalie clan, entering action #12 in goals against, meaning that 19 teams are worse than them in that category. And as far as scoring goes, they are one of the most lethal teams in the entire NHL. The Jets come in at #6 in goals for, having put the puck into the back of the net 139 times so far this season. Let’s see if they can keep it going.
And for Toronto, they rank even higher than the Jets on both categories. They have the #4 scoring offense in the NHL, having put the puck into the back of the net 143 times. They sit rat #9 in goals against, their goaltenders continuing to make sure they can stay in games. They are sitting at 28-11-4 and are atop the North Division as of now.
Odds: The Maple Leafs are favored by 1.5 goals, with the over/under set at 6. The WPG moneyline is +142, while the Jets is -167.
Jets Look to Bridge North Division Gap
Just five points behind the Maple Leafs with a few weeks left of the regular season, the Jets do have an opportunity to pass their divisional foes. A win in this game would bring them to within two. And though they enter action as underdogs, they’ll have their opportunities to pick up the win. They have been playing a terrific brand of hockey in 2020-21.
Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Kyle Connor have done a terrific job of leading the attack on the ice, all three guys with over 40 points on the year. And both goalies have been able to get the job done. Connor Hellebuyck has posted a 20-11 record, while Laurent Brossoit is 6-3 in 10 starts.
Maple Leafs Look to Extent North Division Lead
A loss in this contest would be critical for the Maple Leafs. They could push their advantage up to eight points over the Jets, meaning that if they were to lose twice to Winnipeg next week, they could still hypothetically be ahead of them in the standings. This game has a lot on the line, and they need to treat it like the playoffs.
Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are tied for the team lead with 53 points. Both are just 23 years of age and will be very good players for a long time to come. There are plenty of lethal passers and scorers on this club.
Frederik Anderson has gone 13-8-2 in his 23 appearances, while Jack Campbell has gone 11-1 with a .930 save %. They have also watched Michael Hutchinson go 4-2-1 in eight starts.
Leafs Get the Big Win
Sorry Winnipeg, but not today. Toronto’s offense will guide them to victory in this heated battle.
