Red Sox First in AL East
The home team, Boston Red Sox come into the second half of the season with the best record in the division by 3.5 games over New York and Tampa Bay. The Red Sox dropped their final two before the break, but overall are 50-39. The Red Sox have won 25 out of 39 games at Fenway Park this season, and overall, Boston has scored 431 runs, and allowed just 366.
Boston is watching Mookie Betts lead the way offensively. Betts was an American League All Star starter in the game on Tuesday. Betts leads the team with 16 homeruns and 53 runs batted in. The Red Sox are led by Dustin Pedroia, who is hitting .303, for a team that is batting .268. The Red Sox have seen great starting pitching lately, with 51 quality starts. That ranks second in all of baseball. Boston is slated to throw
Drew Pomeranz, Chris Sale, Rick Porcello and then David Price on Sunday Night Baseball.
Yankees Looking to Get Back on Track
For the New York Yankees, they have struggled for a couple weeks. The Yankees led the division most of the first month and half of the season until their slide. Overall, New York has lost 7 out of their last 10 games. The Yankees are 45-41 on the season. New York has struggled on the road with a 19-24 record this season. The Yankees have the second best run differential in all of the American League, at +98.
The Yankees top starter this season has been Luis Severino. Joe Girardi has yet to announce his exact rotation, but no doubt he will get the start. Masahiro Tanaka threw in the final game of the first half, which means he will likely go on Saturday, and face Rick Porcello. C.C. Sabathia is back for the Yankees, after missing some time. He will make his 15th start of the season during this series, as will likely Michael Pineda. The Yankees offense, anchored by big Aaron Judge; who leads the team with 30 homeruns.
Boston Rules Series
In the end, this is going to be a fun series, but it’s hard to argue against the Boston Red Sox not winning three of more games in this series. The Red Sox starting pitching, when they put it all together may be the best in the American League. Chris Sale, Rick Porcello and David Price are all three guys that have won big games over and over throughout their career. The Yankees started the second half on a little bit of a slump, and look for it to continue in the second half with Boston sliding away from the rest of the division in the American League East. Bet on the Boston Red Sox to win at least three out of four in this series.
