The ‘Millionaire Maker’ has been one of the most talked about events of the 2013 World Series of Poker. The event is one that has gained a lot of press before the event even began this past Saturday. The event was set to offer a guaranteed $1 million for the first place finisher and many thought the event would be a record breaker, which it was.
The MM had 6,343 players competing which pushed the prize pool to over $8.5 million. Game play would take four days and the winner would end up earning $1.19 million+ for the win. The tournament has now concluded and it was Benny Chen who earned the first place win. This is the first WSOP bracelet for the former online poker pro.
With the win, Chen was the 26th player of the WSOP to be able to make a 7-figure prize without participating in the main event. In the end, Chen had to face off against Michael Bennington in heads up play. Chen commented on competing in the event by stating:
“I had played quite a few tournaments before, but every time I got deep, I’d lose races or get into tough spots. This time, everything went well for me. Last night, I only slept a few hours. So, it was definitely on my mind, but all my friends who are here got me mentally prepared and kept me motivated. That helped a lot.”
The WSOP continues and players continue to compete in the hopes of earning their first or even more WSOP bracelets.
