Earning his first World Series of Poker bracelet and first title win during the tournament series, Hung Le of Ohio recently became the latest to earn a WSOP victory. The 2016 WSOP featured the $888 Crazy Eights 8-Handed No Limit Hold’em tournament which took place for the very first time this year, seeing 6,761 players competing.
The event was one of the new tournaments on the schedule for 2016 and included four starting flights played over a two day time frame. Two more days of gaming would ensure before Le was able to earn the win, taking home $888,888 for his efforts. The large number of participants created a prize pool of $5,403,391 with 956 players earning a payday.
The final table would see eight players competing with many who had never earned a WSOP cashout or even made it to the final table, including Le. In the end, it was Le facing off against Michael Lech, a player from Arkansas, during heads-up play. The final two players would compete in 46 hands before Le would earn the win.
On the final hand, Le would call from the button and Lech would raise to 800,000. Le would call and the flop would show A-10-4. Lech would wager 900,000 and Le called after the flop with an 8 showing up on the turn. Le bet 1,500,000 and Lech would re-raise all-in. Le would call.
Le held pocket 2s while Lech held Q-J of clubs. The river revealed a 6 giving Le the win and his first ever WSOP gold bracelet.
