A report surfaced a few days ago by the Globo which reported that after the Confederations Cup match of Spain and Uruguay, a few Spanish players were victim of theft. The team was staying at a hotel in Recife, Brazil, when most of their possessions – including a lot of cash – were stolen. In the beginning, the theft seemed like a random act but now more of the story has been released and even includes a game of strip poker.
The report was changed a few days after the incident occurred once hotel employees came out with more information on the story. According to the initial report, several players from Spain, including Gerard Pique, were missing cash from their hotel rooms. Employees of the hotel came forward and spoke with the Globo and stated that after the game a band came to the hotel to entertain the team after the win.
Included with the band were a few women and of course the beer was reportedly flowing VERY freely. The band continued to play until the early morning hours and then five of the women joined five players for a strip poker game. Some of the players and women hit it off so they spent the night with each other. Once the players woke up the next day, they noticed the women were gone and so was their cash.
The only player to be named in the report was Gerard Pique but he is certainly not the only player involved. The hotel is currently providing surveillance footage from the security cameras so that police can try to determine who the women are and see if they can figure out if they can get the money back to the players.
The Spanish team now moves ahead in the competition to take on Italy and hopefully will keep their clothes on for the remainder of the trip or possible find an actual poker table to enjoy the game!
